Greetings from NEW England.  I returned to the U.S. last Saturday, and am slowly re-entering.

This week we crossed a major milestone.  The Friday email subscription list reached 600 subscribers.  Some of you may say “big deal” because that’s not a very big list.

You may know that in 2006 God called me to raise up an army of artists who will build Jesus a throne in the earth.   I talk about that call in all of my books.

But God also told me how to do it.

The Lord said “I am going to show you a new way to do ministry.”

For the record, in 2006 I had almost 20 years of ministry experience, 2 ministry degrees, a vast network from coordinating conferences and ministry events, and experience in large fundraising campaigns.

I knew the old way of doing ministry very well.

And God said:

No more networking.  I was instructed to throw away my Rolodex (for you young people, that was a file with cards containing all my contacts).   My Rolodex contained conference speakers, leaders, gatekeepers for ministries, and major churches.   Gone!

No more fundraising!  Prior to Belonging House I worked for several big fundraising organizations and helped with major capital campaigns.  Everything I learned about raising large amounts of money went the way of the Rolodex!

No more strategizing to build a ministry.  In fact, God said not to build a ministry at all.

Then God gave me new directions:  Find some people to pray for you daily and tell your story.

That’s all.  Hmm.

So in September 2006 I sent out my first email to 6 people, telling the story of what God was doing, and asking for prayer.

Jesus said in Matthew 19:29:

And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or property, for my sake, will receive a hundred times as much in return and will inherit eternal life.

We started with 6, and now we have 600.

It was slow.  But it was slow growth.

We have grown to 600 without spam, promoted posts on social media, and without guilt or manipulation.

This has been about building a tribe, a culture, and a unique identity.  It has been about making disciples who work in the realm of culture and creativity.  I have been trying to help you learn how to think, not tell you what to think.

And it’s working.

Another thing has happened.  Leaders regularly confront me and tell me I am doing it the “wrong” way.  How I don’t do enough on Facebook.  How I don’t do enough networking.  How I don’t raise the money I need that would make this easy.

In their defense, several of these folks are my good friends.  And some of them really want the world to hear my message.

Even so,  I have learned that doing more than God directed is not doing what God directed.

Doing it this way has changed me.  I am a different person than I was 13 years ago.  Along the way, I have learned to trust God.

This is the story, and it keeps getting better.

Thanks for tuning in, listening, and sharing it with others.  You are part of a tribe that spans the globe and is changing history.

He Never Fails,
