Be Different

Thank you for your prayers.

When you create a culture
that means you are doing something different.

Sadly,
we have come through a time in history
where being different has been squashed.
Cultural institutions
have been highjacked
to disciple the nations
in a school of lies.

We are called to do something different,
and that means being different.

I get a lot of emails from people
saying that my Bible teaching is different.
The stew of my teaching
isn't "made from a mix."
It is artisan stew.
I tell them
I had eight years
of excellent training
in Bible,
ancient languages,
good theology,
brilliant pastoral care and liturgical training,
nearly thirty years of practical experience,
a side hustle as a professional artist and musician,
and a bit of Jewish DNA.

I pray often.
I listen to God.
I am in my Bible all the time.
All that goes into my artisan stew,
and that's why it tastes so good.

Belonging House is different
because we pray in the spirit every day for fifteen minutes.
Our core group reads the daily Gospel
and knows the sound of the voice of Jesus.
We bless the new moon every month.
We gather to receive Holy Communion.
We forgive and keep our accounts short.
We have many people who pray for Belonging House daily.
And we encourage people to be well-grounded and professional,
not just be prophetic
and arty,

A professional gets up every morning,
regardless of feelings
and shows up
and does the work.
And hopefully,
if you are a Christian,
you work unto the Lord--
in other words, you do good work.
That's the point.

We aren't going to lead a spiritual awakening in the arts
if we are sloppy and lazy.
We aren't going to lead a cultural revolution
if we are as naïve and uninformed as our tired overlords.
You have to know your Bible,
and how to rightly understand it,
and know your craft.

Like I said,
we let unbelievers disciple the nations
for a generation
and we went along.
A number of Christian leaders in the arts
bought into this scam
so that they could get credentials,
grant money,
and book deals.
It's been a disaster.
